The Baltimore Ravens are sitting tight with Haloti Ngata -- for now.
Saddled with a mammoth $16 million cap hit, the defensive lineman was an obvious target for a contract restructuring, but Ngata and the Ravens remain "status quo" heading into free agency, a source involved with the situation told NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport.
The Baltimore Sun's Mike Preston reported last month that the Ravens were busy trying to negotiate a cap-friendly extension for Ngata, who is in the final year of his deal. The five-time Pro Bowler loomed as a possible release if the sides couldn't agree to a reduction, but Rapoport noted that Ngata's status is "likely to remain unchanged at this point."
The Ravens reportedly did convince pass rusher Terrell Suggs to restructure the final two years of his deal to save Baltimore $2.25 million, per The Sun.
Ngata rode out a four-game suspension to close the regular season, but he remains a core Ravens defender who thrived last season as a run-stuffer and pocket nuisance.
With Baltimore still hanging around as a Super Bowl threat in the AFC, holding on to one of its anchoring forces makes plenty of sense.
