LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA -- The Washington Redskins announced that they released defensive back Shawn Springs on Friday.
In his five seasons with the Redskins (2004-08), Springs played in 64 games with 59 starts. He totaled 275 tackles, 12 interceptions, 52 passes defensed, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.
Springs has amassed 665 tackles, 32 interceptions, 135 passes defensed, five forced fumbles, six fumble recoveries and one touchdown in his 12-year career.
"Shawn has been the consummate professional," Redskins coach Jim Zorn said. "He has played multiple positions in the defensive backfield and was a strong contributor in his five seasons with the Redskins. We wish him the very best and are confident he will find an opportunity in the National Football League."
