Ryan Kerrigan, the best player on Washington's defense, doesn't think his offseason knee issues will be a problem.
After registering a career-high 13 1/2 sacks last year, Kerrigan noted some lingering discomfort in his leg. An arthroscopic procedure knocked him out of most of the team's offseason activities but, in a recent interview with CSN Washington, he sounds like a player on track for training camp.
"My leg feels really good and I'm glad I got the surgery -- not just for football but it makes my everyday life feel better so I'm glad I got it done," Kerrigan said. "Now it's just a matter of getting strong and getting into shape."
Kerrigan told the site that he's back to running now, and that the remaining gap between now and camp will be used to rebuild some strength.
For Washington, the development is crucial. Despite some offseason acquisitions like Terrance Knighton and Ricky Jean Francois, coach Jay Gruden absolutely needs a healthy Kerrigan to make his defense work.
Gruden's offense will have a hard enough time putting their scheme together as it is.
