You could play "Madden NFL 25" all day long and might not be able to conjure up as many combo moves as Reggie Bush displayed Sunday in the Detroit Lions' 40-32 victory over the Chicago Bears.
Bush ran, spun, leapt, cut, spun again, shimmied and scampered all over the Bears' defense for 139 yards and one touchdown on 18 carries. He added four catches for 34 yards.
The Lions' offense is completely different with Bush in the lineup. The running back didn't just do it on screen passes and outside runs. He showed an ability to gain chunks of yardage on creases inside.
Even some who questioned what Bush could bring to the table in Detroit have reversed field:
Here's what else we learned:
1) We were overdue for a classic Jay Cutler game. After the Bears quarterback looked superb through three weeks, the wheels fell off for him. He threw three interceptions and was erratic most of the day. The Lions' defensive line clearly was in his head. The body-language police will have a field day with Cutler this week.
2) The Lions' defensive front taught the young right side of the Bears' offensive line their first lesson of the season. Ndamukong Suh finally got the stats (two sacks and a forced fumble) to accompany his great play through the quarter-mark of the season.
3) Louis Delmas (twointerceptions) was the difference-maker for the Lions' secondary. He and fellow safety Glover Quin (one interception) played exceptionally well. Those two cover up a lot of warts in the Lions' back end.
4) When the Bears' defense doesn't force turnovers, it can be picked apart. This could come back to haunt them later in the season.
5) Matthew Stafford was erratic early for the Lions, repeatedly throwing high and wide. His third-quarter lawn-dart interception with the Lions driving was his worst of the game. Is it a bit odd to nitpick Stafford after a win? Yes. Guess what? Great NFL quarterbacks get nitpicked.
