Oh, and he's already taken some calls regarding the No. 4 overall pick.
"My phone line is always open," McKenzie said, per CSN Bay Area. "You hear everybody out. If it makes sense and it's going to help the Raiders, we'll do a deal."
We already know that the Jets are one of the teams planning to at least call McKenzie and see what his asking price would be, but the revelation does help us put the draft in its proper context.
At this point, we're so consumed by quarterback drama that the possibility of another team wanting to move up into the top five for someone not named Marcus Mariota or Jameis Winston seems ridiculous.
But the fact is, either Dante Fowler, Jr. or Leonard Williams might be available there. Both could stake their claim as the best overall player in the draft.
While it's unlikely that McKenzie will move out of the top five -- he's under pressure and needs premium players to help reverse Oakland's fortunes in 2015 -- it's important to remember that picks like this one could end up being the most interesting on Thursday night -- especially if we grow tired of talking about quarterbacks by then.
