The San Francisco 49ers rewarded their Pro Bowl linebacker, Patrick Willis, with a five-year, $50 million contract extension last week. Their Pro Bowl tight end could be next.
Comcast SportsNet Bay Area cited two league sources in reporting Monday that the 49ers and Vernon Davis are discussing a new deal. Davis, whose rookie contract runs out after the 2010 season, wants a five-year, $40 million extension with $25 million guaranteed.
Willis received $29 million guaranteed, but a source told Comcast SportsNet Bay Area that a large portion of the contract's money is deferred until 2013. That gives the 49ers flexibility to sign Davis, too.
Said Davis via Twitter: "We got plenty of time y'all I'll sign an extension soon I'm sure don't worry I'm in 100%."
