Report: Charles Woodson leaves Broncos without deal

Charles Woodson spent the day at Dove Valley meeting with Denver Broncos brass, but no deal was reached. Instead, the free-agent defensive back left Broncos headquarters late Wednesday afternoon without a contract, The Denver Post reported.

Although the Carolina Panthers have looked interested and the Oakland Raiders discussed the financial parameters of a deal for Woodson, the Broncos still seem to be the favorites to land his services.

Woodson prefers to play for a Super Bowl contender, which leaves the Panthers and Raiders behind the eight-ball. The Broncos still have roughly $7 million in salary-cap space, so they easily could meet Woodson's contract demands.

Denver's decision-makers believe Woodson would give the Broncos' secondary a much-needed ballhawk, The Post's Mike Klis said. Adding Woodson on top of Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie would make the coaching staff feel better about a defensive backfield that was burned for three long touchdowns in the playoff loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

Now the Broncos just have to convince Woodson that he's the missing piece that will put them over the top.
