Louisville coach Charlie Strong will be named the new coach at Texas on Sunday, and a news conference will follow on Monday, a source has told USA Today.
Earlier Saturday, a Louisville spokesman told reporters Strong wanted to meet with Louisville director of athletics Tom Jurich about his future. That was supported by the Texas source who spoke to USA Today.
"We've got to respect that," the official said. "We fully expect him to be here."
Sports Illustrated has reported that Texas is prepared to offer Strong a five-year contract worth $5 million per season. That would make Strong one of the five highest-paid coaches in the college game. He has led the Cardinals to 11-2 and 12-1 seasons over the last two years, keyed by one of the nation's top NFL quarterback prospects in junior Teddy Bridgewater.
Texas' Mack Brown stepped down last month amid controversy that he was privately ousted following 16 years with the school. The Longhorns were just 8-5 this season, including an ugly 30-7 loss to Oregon in Brown's final game as coach.
