Florida defensive end Alex McCalister reportedly has been dismissed from the Gators program and intends apply for early eligibility for the 2016 NFL Draft.
It's unclear why McCalister was dismissed; his ouster from the program and draft intentions were reported by The Gainesville Sun. That means Florida will be without one of its key defenders against Michigan in the Citrus Bowl on New Year's Day. According to the report, McCalister was among the Florida underclassmen who applied for feedback from the NFL Draft Advisory Board.
McCalister was one of the Gators' top pass rushers with 6.5 sacks on the season among 9.5 tackles for loss, despite missing three games with a foot injury. A fourth-year junior, McCalister has a thin frame at 6-6, 239 pounds, not unlike Dallas Cowboys rookie Randy Gregory, a 2015 second-round pick.
