Report: Giants to add Izzo to staff as special teams aide

The New York Giants plan to hire 14-year NFL veteran Larry Izzo as an assistant special teams coach, *The Star-Ledger* reported Friday, citing a source with knowledge of the impending move.

The newspaper reports that the Giants had their eye on Izzo after Thomas McGaughey left the role in March to join LSU's coaching staff.

Izzo developed into a special-teams ace with the Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots and New York Jets, before retiring because of a neck injury.

The three-time Pro Bowl pick (in 2000, 2002 and 2004) first joined the Dolphins in 1996 as an undrafted player out of Rice. He spent 2001 to 2008 with the Patriots before spending his last season in 2009 with the Jets.
