Report: LaDainian Tomlinson didn't draw Broncos offer

LaDainian Tomlinson created a bit of a stir Saturday when he told a reporter he flirted with the idea of signing with the Denver Broncos.

The man wanted his ring, and teaming with Peyton Manning in vengeance mode was an understandable attraction. At the very least, it was more logical than signing with that New York team that hasn't sniffed the Super Bowl since Woodstock.

Debate: 2001 NFL Draft re-do

LaDainian Tomlinson, Drew Brees and Mike Vick all went in the 2001 draft. How would you rank them in a draft re-do? **More ...**

It turned out to be a one-sided flirtation. Mike Klis of The Denver Post reported Sunday that the Broncos never made an offer for the 33-year-old future Hall of Fame running back.

Tomlinson's agent did reach out to Denver, but the team went with youth over experience by selecting Ronnie Hillman in the third round of April's draft.

Though Tomlinson said the Broncos were the only team he considered before retirement, it's hard to believe he would have ended his career if teams were actively courting him. As per usual, it's the body -- not the mind -- that decides when a pro athlete's time is up.
