The Lions are expected to announce the loss of two defensive starters Wednesday as defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch and cornerback Alphonso Smith are set for season-ending surgeries, according to theDetroit Free Press.
Vanden Bosch has a bulging disk in his neck, and Smith has a recurrent subluxation of his right shoulder.
Smith dislocated his shoulder on the final drive of Sunday's 24-20 loss to the Chicago Bears.
The Lions signed cornerback Prince Miller off the Baltimore Ravens' practice squad to fill Smith's roster spot.
Smith leads the Lions with five interceptions. Vanden Bosch is second on the team with four sacks.
