Report: Mathis' absence from Colts' OTAs linked to contract dispute

Colts defensive end Robert Mathis, who normally participates in the team's organized team activities, is skipping the voluntary workouts this year in hopes of having his contract reworked, the Indianapolis Star reported, citing an individual with knowledge of the situation.

Mathis, a two-time Pro Bowl pick, has two years remaining on a five-year, $30 million contract that he signed in 2006. Mathis is scheduled to earn a base salary of $2.31 million in 2010 and $2.4 million in 2011.

Mathis, 29, is second to teammate Dwight Freeney on the Colts' all-time sack list with 63 in seven seasons. Mathis recorded 9.5 sacks in 14 games (nine starts) last season.

The Colts held the third of nine voluntary OTA sessions Tuesday. The others are scheduled for Thursday and June 1-2, June 8 and June 10-11. The team does have a mandatory minicamp June 4-6, but it wasn't immediately known if Mathis will attend.
