Report: Roethlisberger won't play in Steelers' preseason opener

Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is in uniform for the Steelers' preseason opener against the Detroit Lions at Heinz Field, but he will not play, the *Pittsburgh Post-Gazette* reported Saturday.

Byron Leftwich started with the first-team offense. He is expected to be the Steelers' starter during the regular season while Roethlisberger serves a six-game suspension for violating the NFL's personal-conduct policy.

The suspension could be reduced to four games if NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell decides Roethlisberger has done what the league wants of him.
