The New Orleans Saints might make a long-term offer to running back Pierre Thomas as early as Tuesday, WVUE-TV reported, citing a source.
Thomas, a restricted free agent, hasn't signed his second-round tender and wants a long-term deal. The three-year pro led the Saints in rushing yards (793) and touchdowns (six) last season, and he scored a TD during the Super Bowl XLIV victory over the Indianapolis Colts.
Reggie Bush and Lynell Hamilton are the other experienced running backs currently on New Orleans' roster.
The Saints have been busy the past week. They re-signed guard Jahri Evans to a seven-year, $57 million contract and safety Darren Sharper to a one-year deal worth up to $2.5 million.
