Robert Griffin III will continue to wear that hefty, black brace on his right knee, but the Washington Redskins' rookie quarterback told reporters Wednesday he's "better every day" ahead of Sunday's wild-card game with the Seattle Seahawks.
Griffin was a full participant in practice Wednesday and wondered out loud if the brace is a bigger issue than whatever discomfort remains from the sprained lateral collateral ligament he suffered last month against the Baltimore Ravens.
"It's getting pretty close to just being mostly the brace. But the doctors aren't going to let me take it off," Griffin told The Washington Post. "... I know a lot of people talk about the limp with the brace, but any time you wear a brace like that, it's to protect you, so it's gonna cause a natural limp. You're not going to be able to bend your knee normally. It restricts your flexion and your extension, so it's just to protect the ligaments in there, so there'll be a natural limp in there, but at the same time you can still generate power."
Griffin has shown signs of discomfort on the field in recent weeks and seemed to lack his natural burst in last Sunday night's win over the Dallas Cowboys.
His knee's on the mend, but RG3's unique demeanor was in full bloom Wednesday when he snuck into Redskins coach Mike Shanahan's weekly news conference unannounced.
"Coach? We just wanted to know," Griffin III asked on the sly. "What did you do for New Year's?"
"You got me by surprise there," Shanahan said with a laugh. "Who is this guy?"
Only the savior of the Redskins.
