Ronde Barber getting reps at safety for Buccaneers

After spending 15 seasons at cornerback with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Ronde Barber might be called upon to learn a new role.

ATL: Schiano makes his point

Gregg Rosenthal writes that new Buccaneers coach Greg Schiano is making an immediate impact in Tampa Bay with his high-energy style. **More ...**

Barber took reps at safety on Tuesday in the Buccaneers' first voluntary offseason program. The Buccaneers could revisit the trial, coach Greg Schiano said.

"That's one of those (experiments)," Schiano said, according to the Tampa Bay Times. "I think Ronde can certainly do it and did a good job today doing it. We'll see. Again ... how do we get the best 11 on the field?"

After releasing Tanard Jackson last week, the Buccaneers have just four safeties on the roster, none of whom has been in the NFL for more than three years.

Schiano said the team also was considering adding a safety via the draft or free agency.
