The struggling Miami Dolphins are in no position to be handing out trade secrets.
In the team's ugly 22-19 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, ESPN's Jon Gruden suggested that Dolphins offensive guard John Jerry tipped off Bucs defenders by craning his neck to look at Ryan Tannehill before passing plays.
Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald also reported that fans have noticed their quarterback shouting "go" before pass plays and "go go" before a run.
"It's not always that way," tight end Michael Egnew told the newspaper. "A lot of people think they know and have no idea."
Tannehill downplayed the criticism Wednesday, claiming he regularly changes cadence at the line and hasn't shown his hand pre-snap.
"I don't think there's concern," he said. "We go against our defense every day throughout camp and OTAs. If we were tipping off something that was so blatantly obvious, they would tell us, and they would be able to defend it."
Then there's Jerry. Asked about Gruden's scouting report, the lineman simply said: "I don't worry about that."
We'd advise giving it some thought.
