Ryan Wendell reportedly re-signs with Patriots

New England Patriots center Ryan Wendell started every game for the last two seasons. It looks like he'll stay in that role.

The team has re-signed the sixth-year lineman to a two-year contract worth a maximum of $6.85 million, according to ESPNBoston.com's Field Yates.

Wendell's on-field performance dipped last season. After grading out as the NFL's fourth-best center in 2012, he finished dead last in pass protection in 2013, per Pro Football Focus. He also struggled as a run blocker, meaning New England might not be done adding competition at the position.

To his credit, Wendell can shift over to the guard spot, giving offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels a scheme-flexible blocker who is under pressure to rebound in 2014.

The latest "Around The League Podcast" offers a full recap of the NFL Annual Meeting in Orlando, then proposes player moves that won't happen (but probably should).
