Breaking News: The defense wants to create turnovers.
The New Orleans Saints are desperate to turn around their 2-4 season. For that to happen, Rob Ryan's defense knows it must improve its takeaway ratio in order to give Drew Brees and the offense more opportunities, especially on a short field.
New Orleans has caused just four turnovers on the season (tied for 30th in the league).
The Saints have gotten so desperate to create takeaways they've even named their plan: "Operation: Feed Drew."
"We have to keep taking those," safety Kenny Vaccaro said Wednesday, per The Advocate. "The more chances he gets to score the ball, the better chance we have at winning."
The Saints' defense picked off Matthew Stafford twice last week -- including once by Vaccaro -- and helped set up Drew Brees for his best game of the season -- until a brutal late interception. The Saints still lost.
This Sunday against a locked-in Aaron Rodgers, the Saints' defense must create havoc in the backfield, get the quarterback off his spot and manufacture turnovers.
Rodgers has thrown 18 touchdown passes to just one interception this season. His last pick was Week 1. The signal-caller currently has thrown 192 passes without a pick (which is 102 from Bart Starr's franchise record).
Still, Vaccaro knows exactly what he'll do with his next pick under "Operation: Feed Drew."
"Every time I get a pick, I might run and give it to Drew (myself) from now on," Vaccaro said.
So many plans, so few picks.
