Saints LB Vilma arrested for reckless driving

NEW ORLEANS -- New Orleans Saints middle linebacker Jonathan Vilma was arrested in Miami for resisting arrest and reckless driving, according to Miami police.

Miami Dade County Jail Spokeswoman Janelle Hall said the arrest happened Friday afternoon. Vilma was released at 10:21 p.m. on $6,500 bail.

"Clearly he's upset about being arrested and plans to fight it," Mitch Frankel, Vilma's agent, told The Associated Press on Saturday. "There was no alcohol, drugs or firearms involved. Jonathan plans to vigorously fight it."

New Orleans and Miami media said Vilma was accused of weaving in and out of traffic and running a red light.

"He doesn't know why" he was stopped, for an "alleged traffic violation" while on his way to pick someone up at the airport, Frankel said.

The Saints did not return a call for comment.
