Sammy Watkins expects to be ready for training camp

Earlier this month, Sammy Watkinswasn't sure about his recovery timetable following foot surgery and didn't know if he'd be ready for training camp.

Now, the Buffalo Bills' star wide receiver has more clarity on his rehab.

"For training camp, I think I'll definitely be available," Watkins told TSN.ca. "I might sit out two or three days. It's all about how I feel within those days. The goal is to come back and be prepared for training camp."

Watkins suffered a broken bone in his foot this offseason and had a screw inserted in April.

The Bills open training camp July 30. Watkins plans to remain in Buffalo to rehab until then.

"Basically we are just taking it slow," Watkins said, "doing the little things now as far as cutting and moving around; the basics. There's really no timetable. It's really when I feel healthy, when I am healthy.

"The important part is getting on the field and staying healthy. So, basically my whole summer will be staying in Buffalo getting better."

Watkins missing a few training camp reps isn't the end of the world, so long as he's 100 percent and in shape come September. The stud receiver's rapport with quarterback Tyrod Taylor took time to jell last season, so any early work in training would aid in re-establishing their connection.

With Rex Ryan already declaring the Bills "won the offseason," despite the litany of injuries, the news that Watkins will indeed be back on the field during training camp is a welcome note to Buffalo fans.
