The San Francisco 49ers were huge favorites at home Sunday against the St. Louis Rams; only they didn't come away with a win in their most disappointing effort since the New York Giants destroyed them.
Then again, they didn't lose either.
"I don't know exactly how it feels, yet," 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh said after watching his team tie the Rams 24-24, via Comcast SportsNet Bay Area. "I don't know quite how to feel right how. I've asked several people, some of our players. And I think they feel like I do. Don't know quite how to feel right now. But the way I feel is that it was a good football game. A hard-fought football game, and we came out even."
In many ways, the 49ers were lucky to get the tie in the weirdest game of the year. And it should almost go without saying that a tie is much, much better than a loss. The 49ers remain two games ahead of the Seattle Seahawks in the loss column.
"It feels like we didn't even play, mentally not physically," 49ers tight end Vernon Davis said.
"I've never heard of a tie in football," safety Dashon Goldson said. "Where's everybody going? Did somebody quit? Forfeit?"
Even though some Rams players didn't know the rules, ties are a delicious part of NFL history. In the ultimate black and white sport of wins and losses, there's just no manual for how to react after kissing your sister.
