The Seahawks announced Tuesday that McCloughan will assist new general manager John Schneider and vice president of football operations Will Lewis in building the team's roster.

McCloughan spent five years with the NFC West rival 49ers. He was promoted to GM in 2008, then resigned following the 2009 season.

Schneider knows McCloughan from the pair's days working together in Green Bay in the 1990s. He called McCloughan a proven talent evaluator and said he's excited because the Seahawks "got better today."

McCloughan was Seattle's director of college scouting from 2000 through the 2004 season.
