Seahawks give punter Ryan a multiyear contract extension

RENTON, Wash. -- The Seattle Seahawks confirmed Wednesday that they have given punter Jon Ryan a new multiyear contract.

The team didn't release details, but the Canadian Press reported that Ryan's deal is a six-year, $9.1 million extension with a $1.6 million signing bonus.

Ryan just finished his fourth season in the NFL and averaged 46.2 yards per punt, good for eighth in the league and the best mark of his career. His 38.7 net average also was the highest in his career.

Ryan, 28, started his NFL career with the Green Bay Packers before he was released in 2008 and joined the Seahawks. He started his professional career in the CFL, spending two years with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
