The Seahawks are adding yet another name to their stable of ball-carriers.

Seattle is "going through the process" of signing running back Joe Mixon to the practice squad following a tryout with the team, head coach Mike Macdonald said Monday.

NFL Network Insider Mike Garafolo and ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Mixon would start out on the practice squad once he completes his medical exam.

The 30-year-old Mixon has tallied an impressive 7,429 rushing yards, 2,448 receiving yards and 74 touchdowns over the course of eight seasons in the NFL, but he sat out the entire 2025 campaign with a foot injury, after which the Texans released him in March.

When he was last healthy, Mixon made the Pro Bowl during one and only year with the Texans, recording his fifth 1,000-yard rushing campaign after putting together four with the Bengals.

Mixon's signing comes two days after Seattle placed Jadarian Price, its first-round rookie running back, on injured reserve due to a chest injury.

Mixon joins a running back room currently led by Emanuel Wilson, who rushed for 81 yards and a score in a 30-23 win over the Chargers on Sunday, and pass-catching back George Holani. Seattle's Zach Charbonnet is currently practicing amid his 21-day window to return from the physically unable to perform list.

Beyond adding more running back depth, Mixon is also the latest notable free-agent signing for the Seahawks, following that of cornerbacks Terrion Arnold and Trevon Diggs.

Arnold, who signed in August, is currently facing eight felony charges and is on the Commissioner's Exempt List.

Mixon has had legal issues as well, dating back to when he was in college at the University of Oklahoma. He was caught on video punching a female student when he was a freshman there and eventually reached a plea deal after he was charged with misdemeanor assault.

In 2023, Cincinnati police issued an arrest warrant for Mixon in which he was accused of pointing a firearm at a woman. Mixon was found not guilty.
