Seahawks' Mike Macdonald: DK Metcalf had 'great message' to team following practice scuffle

Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf appeared to swing a helmet at cornerback Tre Brown's head amid an in-practice skirmish on Wednesday, an incident captured in the background during a segment on Inside Training Camp Live.

Appearing on the The Insiders after practice, Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald told NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero that he definitely doesn't "want people fighting out here and stuff, especially against our own teammates."

Macdonald added that Metcalf "gave a great message" to the team following practice.

"Just kind of putting everything in perspective," Macdonald said of Metcalf's message. "The guys finished everything out the right way. So, proud of our guys."

The fight was one of several during an intense practice in Latrobe, Wash. At one point, Macdonald had to halt the session and brought the team together in an effort to bring order.

Macdonald said his message to the team was "positive."

"The guys are in a good spot, but just reminding them why they're out here, what we're trying to get accomplished, and let's take a deep breath and let's finish practice the right way and then we did," Macdonald said of his message to the team.

In-practice fights aren't unusual as players partake in competitive environments for the first time in months.

During joint practices between the Giants and Lions this week, multiple fights broke out and the league instituted $200,000 fines for each club as a result.

Teams were reminded in a July memo that fighting and unprofessional conduct at joint practices would not be tolerated.

It's unclear if Metcalf's actions on Wednesday will result in punishment by the league or club.

"We've been getting after it," Macdonald said. "I'm proud of how we responded today, we came out ready to practice. I don't know what the numbers are -- we've been out here, I don't know, 14, 16 days -- we're tired of going up against one another, you know. But the guys are spirited, we had a great practice and we're excited for Saturday."

The Seahawks are on the road Saturday to face the Los Angeles Chargers in the preseason opener.
