Seattle Seahawks' Pete Carroll: USC return 'not happening'

Add Pete Carroll to the list of coaches who don't care to pick up the pieces of USC football.

Or, at least, aren't willing to say if they are for now.

"I love USC, its a great place. But that's not happening," the Seattle Seahawks coach said, according to Sportsradio KJR 950's Dave Mahler.

Of course it's not happening. While Carroll enjoyed immense success at the school, he was also in charge of the program during a period that drew significant NCAA sanctions. And the level of Carroll's involvement in the NCAA violations there -- even if zero -- compels USC Athletic Director Pat Haden to look into anything but the rearview mirror for the Trojans' next coach.

Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy has denied interest in the position, as well.

So who is a candidate?

According to NFL Media insider Ian Rapoport, two head coaches in the NFL will be considered: Sean Payton and Chip Kelly. Last week, Kelly said he's received no contact from the school.
