"Ground and Pound" has emerged from the ether for the New York Jets.
Led by 161 yards and three touchdowns from Shonn Greene, the Jets finally figured out a way to dictate the pace of a game with their rushing attack in a 35-9 win over the Indianapolis Colts.
It was a turn-back-the-clock game for Jets coach Rex Ryan, who will sleep well Sunday night. Sanchez put up the type of stat line that wasn't uncommon in his early days, finishing with just 82 yards through the air, but he made the most of his 18 pass attempts, connecting on two touchdown throws. Sanchez also didn't commit a turnover.
For all the doom and gloom that has surrounded the franchise, beginning with Darrelle Revis' season-ending knee injury in Week 4, the Jets now are a respectable 3-3, with a huge matchup against the New England Patriots on tap. If they pull off the upset in Foxborough, the Jets will find themselves in first place in the AFC East.
But that's in the future. Ryan will enjoy this win, perhaps more than any in some time. The Colts are nobody's example of a strong defense, especially against the run, but the Jets played the way Ryan envisioned back in August -- with power running, playmaking defense and a sliver of trickery, courtesy of Tim Tebow.
If nothing else, the Jets have shown in the last two games that they haven't packed it in, a reality that seemed entirely possible in their 34-0 home loss to the San Francisco 49ers in their first game AD (After Darrelle).
The dark clouds have lifted over Florham Park ... for now.
