Smith makes amends for forgetting to mention Florida in speech

Emmitt Smith entered the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday night, capping one the sport's most storied careers.

During Smith's induction speech, the former Dallas Cowboy star praised everyone from Walter Payton to the two other Hall of Fame members of the Cowboys' Triplets, Troy Aikman and Michael Irvin.

Smith notably forgot one party -- the University of Florida, where he spent three seasons as a running back before giving up his final year of eligibility to enter the 1990 NFL Draft.

On Sunday, the NFL's leading rusher made amends for the oversight via his Twitter account.

"I sincerely sincerely apologize for not mentioning u last night in my hof speech Gator Nation," Smith tweeted. "I jus got caught up in everything plz charge it to my mind not my heart!!"

Smith made the Hall in his first year of eligibility and won three titles, taking MVP honors in Super Bowl XXVIII.

Smith rushed for 18,355 yards, with 164 touchdowns, 11 seasons with 1,000 or more yards on the ground and 78 games with 100 rushing yards.
