Stanford guard David Yankey to miss Washington State game

Stanford will be without its star offensive lineman Saturday on the road against Washington State.

Head coach David Shaw announced Tuesday that All-American left guard David Yankey will miss the game because of a family situation that required him to return home.

"He had a family situation that he's got to go take care of," Shaw said, according to an ESPN report. "He's in our thoughts and prayers. He's OK. But he'll be with his family this week. We hope to get him back soon."

Shaw said Yankey, who is from Roswell, Ga., is healthy and in good standing with the team. He did not say when he would return.

Sophomore Josh Garnett is expected to start in place of Yankey, who was dominant in a tough matchup against Arizona State DT Will Sutton in the Cardinal's win last week.
