The Pittsburgh Steelers won their season opener in thrilling fashion, but the victory came at a steep price.
The Steelers fear that star pass rusher T.J. Watt suffered a torn pectoral muscle during the fourth quarter of their 23-20 win over the Bengals on Sunday, NFL Network's Mike Giardi reported.
NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport added that Watt is scheduled for an MRI exam on Monday to confirm the diagnosis.
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin told reporters after the game that Watt was undergoing evaluation for an upper body injury.
Watt suffered the injury as Cincy marched down the field on its game-tying drive at the end of regulation and could be seeing favoring his upper body when he left the field. Watt, the 2021 Defensive Player of the Year, was off to another torrid start, logging one sack and an interception before suffering the injury.
Adding more injury to insult, starting running back Najee Harris also left Sunday's game with a foot injury and was ruled out. Harris was seen exiting the locker room in a walking boot, per the Cincinnati Enquirer, but Giradi later reported Harris' injury is not believed to be serious.
Tomlin did not have an update on Harris' status beyond that he was being evaluated for a foot injury.
