With two years remaining on Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin's contract, president Art Rooney II told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review on Friday that he hopes the coach is with the team "for the long term."

"Our coach's contract is something we don't really try to speculate on what might happen," Rooney said. "We're obviously very happy with Mike and the job he's doing and we hope he's going to be here for the long term and I think I'm comfortable in saying that will be the case."
Tomlin's current deal is guaranteed through 2012 with an option for 2013. The last time Tomlin signed an extension, in 2010, it was with one guaranteed year and one option year left on his original contract. NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora reported at the time that the deal paid $5 million per year, citing a league source.
Tomlin has a 55-25 record in five seasons with the Steelers, making the playoffs four times. He led the team to victory in Super Bowl XLIII and captured the AFC championship in 2010.
Since 1969, the Steelers have had just three head coaches, including Chuck Noll (1969-91) and Bill Cowher (1992-2006).
