Stephen Jones: Cowboys won't trade McFadden, Morris

Don't hand the Dallas Cowboys' lead running back job to Ezekiel Elliott just yet.

Incumbent starter Darren McFadden has been the first back through drills in offseason practices while Elliott adjusts to NFL game speed.

Even if the Cowboys' preference is for Elliott to earn the starting job this summer, they aren't about trade their veteran depth in the form of McFadden and ex-Redskins star Alfred Morris.

"We got calls during the draft asking to trade for a couple of our running backs," executive vice president Stephen Jones said, via the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, "and we just don't have that interest."

Nobody expects Dallas to deal McFadden after he recorded the second-most 100-yard rushing performances in the league last season. The 28-year-old back is valuable Elliott insurance for a team with designs on the NFC East crown this year.

It's a bit of surprise, though, that Jones wouldn't be open to offers for Morris, who signed a two-year, $3.5 million contract in March.

Earlier this month, Morris insisted he had no regrets about signing with the Cowboys after receiving surprisingly little interest on the open market.

Do the Redskins have regrets about letting him fly the nest now that they have no proven depth behind second-year back Matt Jones?
