Steven Jackson active for New England Patriots

Steven Jackson is ready to roll.

Per NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport, the veteran running back will be active Sunday despite only a week with the club. Jackson was brought in to fill the power back/closer role vacated by an injured LeGarrette Blount.

The Patriots-Jetsgame already provides us with high drama -- the Jets desperately needing a win to stay alive in the hunt for a playoff spot -- but the addition of Jackson running against a top-notch defensive line will be an enjoyable subplot.

Jackson has not played in an NFL game since Dec. 21, 2014, as a member of the Atlanta Falcons.

Jackson was known for his grinding style and, over time, his longevity. Based on his bruising form and heavy work ethic, it was no surprise that he slowed up a bit as he approaches the tail end of his career.

With more than a year to prepare for this moment, his opponents should take note. Jackson is well-rested and could be the perfect addition to the Patriots' roster down the stretch.
