USA Today reported on a study of teen athletes diagnosed with concussions that suggested patients who comply with cognitive rest limits might recover faster than those who engage in increased cognitive activity.
Published in the January edition of the journal "Pediatrics," the study looked at 335 children and young adults ages 8 to 23.
The study provided evidence for guidelines that were previously suggested by, among others, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American College of Sports Medicine and the American Academy of Neurology.
Meehan told The Boston Globe that this is the type of malfunction that doesn't show up on brain-imaging tests.
