T.Y. Hilton taking leadership torch from Reggie Wayne

T.Y. Hilton understands the lineage of Indianapolis Colts receivers and accepts that with Reggie Waynegone, the torch of leader and teacher falls to him.

"Absolutely, I don't really have a choice," Hilton told the team's official website Monday. "I'm the captain of the room. Right now, I gotta make sure everybody's on point, make sure we're on point with Andrew (Luck). For me, whatever (Wayne) taught me, make sure I'm teaching everybody else, because it's only right. Marvin (Harrison) did it with him. He did it for me. Now, I gotta pass on the torch."

Entering his fourth season, the Pro Bowl wideout said not seeing Wayne's No. 87 above the locker in the far corner was a reminder of his new role as leader.

"It's very different. It still hurts me right now. I was still waiting for him to just walk in the meeting room," the 25-year-old Hilton said. "It's different. It's going to take me some time to get used to it, but I don't think I will."

As the veteran ahead of second-year receiver Donte Moncrief and rookie Duron Carter, Hilton has more experience in the Colts' offense than any other wideout. Veteran addition Andre Johnson brings his own brand of leadership and experience, but there is no question that this is Hilton's unit entering 2015.
