The Ravens are the first defending champion with a losing record after seven games since the 2006 Pittsburgh Steelers, the same franchise that knocked Baltimore down a peg in Sunday's 19-16 loss.
Sitting at 3-4 and two games behind the Cincinnati Bengals, Baltimore heads into its bye week with plenty to correct. Especially on offense, where a typically imposing ground game has faltered. Ray Rice and Bernard Pierce averaged 2.76 yards on 21 carries against Pittsburgh.
The Ravens can't run the ball or stop the run. Pittsburgh blasted its way for 141 yards on the ground, leaving pass rusher Terrell Suggs to sound the alarm.
"I'm very concerned," Suggs said after the game, per CSN Baltimore. "It's been very rare with this franchise that we've been under .500. It's happened at a perfect time for us to address everything. We have a tremendous amount of work to do."
Asked specifically about that to-do list, Suggs told reporters: "That's definitely something in-house. I'm not going to give something out for my opponents to say, 'Let's see if they correct it.' We know what we gotta fix -- special teams, offense, defense. We're at a state of emergency now."
It's not too late. The AFC North remains a division ripe for the picking, and Baltimore comes out of its bye week with back-to-back games against the Cleveland Browns and Bengals before a rematch with the Steelers in Week 13.
Last season's Baltimore squad worked itself out of some dark corners. Of course, this isn't last season's team -- right now, not even close -- but the Ravens have plenty of time to turn it around. Do they have the talent is a better question.
