BALTIMORE -- Houston Texans defensive coordinator Wade Phillips will coach from the field during Sunday's divisional playoff game against the Baltimore Ravens, team sources said, marking the first time he has done so since undergoing surgery.
Phillips underwent surgery on his kidney and gall bladder in December and missed two games before returning to coach from the press box in the Texans' regular-season-ending loss to the Tennessee Titans.
Texans linebacker Brian Cushing said Phillips' presence would be "really cool" for the defense when told the veteran coach would return to the sideline.
NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora reported last week that Phillips has pulled his name out of consideration for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' head-coaching job, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.
