Texans' Kubiak expects Cushing back Friday; Johnson up in air

It's a familiar feeling for Houston Texans coach Gary Kubiak, who is waiting for something definitive on the status of wide receiver Andre Johnson.

Johnson sat out practice again Thursday because of a strained left hamstring, instead working out in a pool. That left Kubiak in wait-and-see mode for at least another day.

"I would say we would probably have a pretty good idea (Friday)," Kubiak told reporters. "We'll see. It's a touchy situation because we are very fortunate we came out of it a lot better than we thought. At the same time, how quick do we go back and that type of thing?"

Johnson, who missed six games earlier this season with a right hamstring injury, was injured in the third quarter of a 17-10 win over the Atlanta Falcons. But an MRI exam Monday revealed the injury was not as bad as the previous one, leaving Kubiak to say he felt "fortunate" that Johnson's latest injury wasn't more severe.

Kubiak had already labeled Johnson as a game-time decision for Sunday's game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Kubiak said he expected linebacker Brian Cushing, who sat out again Thursday, to practice on Friday.
