Texans place G Weary on injured reserve

HOUSTON -- The Houston Texans placed guard Fred Weary on injured reserve on Monday because of lingering problems with his right leg, which he broke last season.

Age: 30

Height: 6-4  Weight: 308

College: Tennessee

Experience: 7th season

The 6-foot-4, 308-pound Weary fractured his tibia and fibula in Houston's 28-20 loss to Tennessee on Dec. 2. He underwent offseason surgery and had additional procedures performed on the leg during training camp, but never recovered completely.

"It's tough," Houston coach Gary Kubiak said. "He's well thought of around here. He's been a warrior for this organization. We were all hoping that by this time, he would be in a position to compete, and he hasn't been able to. Very difficult injury."

Weary was one of the Texans' original players, drafted in the third round in 2002.

The Texans signed running back Marcel Shipp to fill Weary's roster spot. Shipp was released by Arizona on Aug. 4.
