Texas A&M wide receiver Ricky Seals-Jones will undergo season-ending knee surgery, the star freshman indicated in a Twitter post Thursday. He is expected to receive medical redshirt status for the 2013 season.

Whether Seals-Jones would continue to play this season or opt for surgery has been an ongoing topic for him and the A&M staff. One of the top-rated wide receiver recruits in the nation last year, Seals-Jones (6-5, 225 pounds) had an impressive debut for the Aggies against Rice on Aug. 30, pulling in three receptions, including a 71-yard score. However, knee pain prevented him from playing against Sam Houston State in Week 2, and he played sparingly against Alabama last week.

Aggies coach Kevin Sumlin indicated earlier this week that a decision would be made soon on the freshman, because his eligibility for a medical redshirt would be compromised with more playing time. Assuming the NCAA grants Seals-Jones' medical redshirt status, he'll still have four more years of college eligibility beginning next season.
