Now this could be fun.
Contrary to early reports, Tim Tebow is active as the New York Jets carry three quarterbacks in a game for the first time all season.
Greg McElroy will make his first NFL start Sunday against the San Diego Chargers after Jets coach Rex Ryan benched Mark Sanchez this week. Both Tebow and Sanchez are listed as the Jets' No. 2 quarterback on the gameday flip-card, according to ESPNNew York.com's Jane McManus.
Tebow's days in New York basically are numbered after McElroy leapfrogged him in the lineup. Reports have him destined for his hometown of Jacksonville, Fla.
Things could get interesting if McElroy struggles to the point that Ryan pulls him from the game. What will the headlines read if Ryan turns to Sanchez over Tebow? And what does it say about Sanchez if Tebow replaces McElroy?
It probably would have been best to keep Tebow in street clothes Sunday. That would have eliminated a whole bunch of drama. Then again, it wouldn't be a Jets game without some of that.
