In a move that represents dropping to one knee and holding a clenched fist to your forehead -- while jumping a shark -- Tim Tebow officially has trademarked Tebowing.
Breer: Jets still standing
Rumors of the Jets' demise have been greatly exaggerated. Albert Breer lauds a resilient bunch. Plus, Week 7 X-factors. **More ...**
The New York Jets quarterback won a legal tussle with two fans who wanted to own the term, according to Rich Cimini of ESPNNewYork.com.
Newsday reported Tebow was awarded the trademark Oct. 9. Paperwork was filed back in April, early in the quarterback's run with the Jets.
"I know it was something that was cool for me in the past, but it's not something I do as Tebowing,' " Tebow said, via Cimini. "It's something I do that's prayer for me and then it got hyped up as Tebowing. So I think (it's) just to control how it's used as well. Make sure it's used in the right way."
Tebow claims he won't try to use the term to his financial advantage, though he said any money made off Tebowing would go to his charity.
Had we been in the Tebowing hey-day of 2011, this would be a bigger deal. Securing the trademark now is akin to locking up the rights to the "Macarena" in 2001.
