The Tim Tebow baseball tryout has a date.
The invite went out to 30 MLB teams, 20 of which are said to be interested in the showcase, according to The Los Angeles Times. That seems like a lot!
If two-thirds of the baseball world are going to take this seriously, I'll do my best to do the same. Let's take a look at Tebow's high school career at Nease High School in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. As a junior in 2005, he hit .494 with four home runs and 30 RBIs. Though Tebow spent most of his time in the outfield, he pitched occasionally and touched 88 miles per hour on the radar gun. He stepped away from the diamond his senior year to focus entirely on football.
He has an OK swing. There's a little Joe Orsulak in there.
"I am beyond impressed with Tim's athleticism and swing, and it goes without saying that he has shown a high level of discipline and strong work ethic," said Chad Moeller, the former big-league catcher who has worked with Tebow. "I see bat speed and power and real baseball talent. I truly believe Tim has the skill set and potential to achieve his goal of playing in the Major Leagues, and based on what I have seen over the past two months, it could happen relatively quickly."
Eh, this all still feels moderately absurd.
