Tennessee Titans quarterback Vince Young was cited for misdemeanor assault after getting into a fight at a Dallas strip club and leaving before authorities arrived early Sunday, police said.
Dallas police Lt. Andy Harvey said Young was not at Club Onyx when police responded to a call of a physical confrontation. Harvey said an investigation led to Young receiving a Class C assault citation, punishable by a fine up to $500.
No arrests have been made.
Video surveillancereleased by police showed Young in a back room at the club talking to a manager briefly before trying to get through a group of people to a man later identified as Creiton Kinchen, 45, according CBS affiliate KTVT, which first reported the incident. Harvey told The Tennessean that Kinchen, a club employee, flashed a derogatory hand gesture in reference to Young's alma mater, the University of Texas. A scuffle then ensues, which others try to break up.
"There were words exchanged. The (guy) gave an upside-down Hook 'em Horns, and that's kind of what started the verbal altercation," Harvey told the paper. "...It upset Vince Young, and the next thing you know they were involved in a scuffle. The other guy received very, very minor injuries. He received a cut lip at the most. It didn't even swell. It wasn't like a punch."
Titans spokesman Robbie Bohren said in a statement Sunday the team was aware of the incident and had contacted Young. He said the team was still gathering information. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said in a tweet that the league "will look into it."
Titans coach Jeff Fishertold TitansRadio.com that he found out about the incident early Sunday morning.
"I'd like to speculate, but we just have to wait until we get the facts," Fisher said. "It's too early to jump to conclusions."
Fisher held his annual charity softball game Sunday night in Nashville, and Young did make an appearance to pinch-hit in the ninth inning, according to The Tennessean. Efforts by the paper to reach Young and his agent, Tom Condon, were unsuccessful.
The Titans are scheduled to conduct OTAs on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday this week.
Young, the No. 3 pick overall in 2006, got his starting job back last fall when Tennessee started 0-6 and owner Bud Adams put him back in the lineup. He helped the Titans win eight of their final 10 and heads into his fifth NFL season with a 26-13 record as a starter.
