Free agent Tom Zbikowski went to high school in the suburbs of Chicago and starred collegiately at Notre Dame. Now the veteran safety is returning home to play for the Chicago Bears.
Zbikowski has agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the Bears, the team reported Saturday. The deal was first reported by the Sun-Times.

The 27-year-old started 11 games for the Indianapolis Colts last season before missing the final five regular-season contests with a knee injury. Although he showed limited range, Zbikowski recorded career highs in tackles (38) and passes defensed (five) in his first season as a full-time starter.
With designs on upgrading to the more gifted LaRon Landry, the Colts released Zbikowski last week while saving more than $1 million against the salary cap.
The Bears have starting safeties in place with Major Wright and Chris Conte, which likely will leave Zbikowski as the third safety and special-teams gunner.
