The Pittsburgh Steelers face a rugged slate of games down the stretch that will decide whether they do, or don't, play football in January. They'll go about their merry way without the services of Willie Colon.
Steelers coach Mike Tomlin confirmed the team's starting left guard underwent knee surgery Monday and will miss several games, according to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
The musical chairs game continues in Pittsburgh. We mentioned Monday that Colon's injury would likely trigger All-Pro Maurkice Pouncey's move from center to guard, with Doug Legursky taking over the middle position. That might not be the plan.
Tomlin told reporters Tuesday there's another way out of this mess: Rookie David DeCastro is healthy enough to play and will likely to start at right guard with Ramon Foster filling the left guard spot.
The Steelers can't afford any more injuries up front. Their season might depend on the health of their remaining linemen.
