Kansas City Chiefs tight end Tony Moeaki can't catch a break. Coach Andy Reid revealed Monday that the oft-injured four-year veteran suffered a fracture to one of his shoulders in Saturday's 26-20 preseason victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
There's no timetable for Moeaki's return, as he's still undergoing testing. It wouldn't be a surprise if the Chiefs opted to place him on injured reserve.
Highly injury-prone in college with the Iowa Hawkeyes, Moeaki has missed time with two head injuries and three knee operations since entering the NFL in 2010.
Along with Anthony Fasano and rookie Travis Kelce, Moeaki was expected to have a significant role in Reid's multi-tight end formations.
Although Kelce has been sidelined by a bruised knee, Reid suggested the No. 63 overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft could return to practice this week. Kelce is coming off a disappointing training camp. Moeaki's injury could force him into the starting "move" tight end role next to Fasano whether he's ready or not.
