Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo appeared to be ready for the regular-season opener, which was just 11 days away against the Super Bowl XLVI champion New York Giants.
Romo completed 9 of 13 passes for 198 yards and two touchdowns (both to wide receiver Dwayne Harris) in the first quarter of Saturday night's 20-19 preseason victory over the St. Louis Rams.
Through three preseason games, Romo has a completion percentage over 65 percent, 303 passing yards and the two TDs. He hasn't thrown an interception and owns a passer rating of 117.1.
A key to Romo's success against the Rams was picking on cornerback Janoris Jenkins, a second-round draft pick out of North Alabama.
Harris beat Jenkins on a deep post route, and Romo hit his receiver in stride nearly 50 yards downfield on what became a 61-yard catch-and-run. On the following series, Romo hit Harris on an intermediate crossing route -- the damage of which could have been mitigated had Jenkins not blown his assignment by following the tight end up the seam or tackled Harris when he had the opportunity.
Harris breezed through Jenkins and Rams safety Craig Dahlto run into the end zone, giving the Cowboys a 17-3 lead through the first quarter of play. It was Jenkins' second missed tackle on the series.
